The Google Sheets Analytics Bootcamp: Transforming Data into Decisions
Welcome to "The Google Sheets Analytics Bootcamp," where data meets decision-making in the most dynamic and accessible platform available today. This two-day intensive workshop is specifically crafted for professionals who operate within the Google ecosystem and are eager to elevate their analytical prowess using Google Sheets. Unlike traditional courses that often rely on desktop-based applications like Excel, our bootcamp is designed to exploit the full potential of Google Sheets, a cloud-native tool that epitomizes flexibility and real-time collaboration.

In this digital age, the capability to not only gather but also quickly analyze and act on data is a crucial asset. Google Sheets provides an unparalleled platform that integrates seamlessly with other Google services, offering functionalities that enhance productivity and decision-making. This bootcamp dives deep into the practical uses of Google Sheets, teaching participants how to efficiently convert raw data into structured, actionable insights. It addresses the modern challenges of data analysis, including the need for on-the-go access and the ability to share and update data in real time across global teams.

Participants will learn through a series of structured exercises, real-world case studies, and interactive sessions, all aimed at harnessing the power of Google Sheets to make informed, data-driven decisions swiftly. This bootcamp is not just about learning how to use a tool; it's about transforming that knowledge into action. By the end of this course, attendees will be equipped to utilize Google Sheets to its fullest potential, making it a cornerstone of their analytical and strategic activities.

    Why You Need This Course

The pace of business today does not forgive delays. Real-time data analysis and decision-making are not just luxuries; they are imperatives for maintaining competitive advantage. This course is essential for:
    • Professionals who need to adapt to the agile, integrated nature of cloud-based tools.
    • Teams that rely on collaborative decision-making processes
    • Anyone who seeks to enhance their efficiency and accuracy in data handling and analysis.

    Objective
    • Appreciate the Analytics value chain, and how it can be applied to solve problems objectively and quantifiably through data.
    • Learn to define problems and identify hypotheses for Analytics
    • Develop technical skills required to prepare and transform data, manage data errors, build new calculated data fields to support the analysis
    • Develop a practical understanding of key statistical concepts relevant to analytics
    • Learn how and when to leverage descriptive analyses to identify pivotal observations in data; and inferential analytics to explore relationships between variables.
    • Appreciate the limitations to descriptive and inferential analyses and how it should/could be used to support decision making

    Outline
    Day 1

    1. What is Analytics and what it takes to build sustainable capabilities
      • This segment seeks to define what analytics is and isn’t, why it matters in today world and what it takes to build sustainable value

    2. An introduction to the Analytics value chain
      • An introduction to the processes and capabilities required to deliver value through analytics; and appreciate the role that Data Analysis plays in the process
      • Analytics does not start with data; it starts with asking the right questions.
      • Hands-on exercise – Problem definition and hypothesis development exercise

    3. Data Management: Preparation and Transformation
      • Based on the problem definition and hypothesis, the data requirements can be determined. But data may not be ready for analysis in its raw form
      • A largely hands-on session with multiple computer-aided exercises on a wide range of data problems. Attendees will get to prepare sizable data sets for data analytics, which include
        • Merging multiple data tables
        • Finding and addressing data errors
        • Understanding the use of system vs calculated data fields
        • This will include the use and application of several key functions and tools within Google Sheets

    4. Descriptive Statistics – Understanding your data
      • Attendees will be introduced to relevant statistics concepts objectively and accurately describe data. This is largely a hands-on session with multiple computer-aided exercises to build the requisite skills
        • Data types, data errors, blanks and their various implicationsDescribing data – Central tendency & Variation
        • Interacting with and finding answers in Data using Pivot Tables

    5. Data visualization as a form of Analysis
      • Statistics is not everyone’s cup of tea; but visualizations can make data insights more accessible to most people
      • This is computer-aided session to build the key skills to design and build interactive dashboards with Google Sheets
        • Principles of data visualization
        • Design and build interactive data visualizations

    Day 2
    1. Inferential Analysis – Establishing relationships among variables
      • Attendees will be introduced to more complex concepts and applications; to estimate unknown values with limited data and to “infer” relationships between variables
      • This is largely a hands-on session with multiple computer-aided exercises on a wide range of applications
        • Key Statistical concepts - Sampling & Probability, Hypothesis Testing
        • Inferential analysis (with Google Sheets) - T-Test, Chi-square test, Correlation analysis, Multiple regression analysis

    2. Capstone Exercise
      • In this segment, the participants are required to study the context of a business case and analyse a set of data to address the issues/problems in the business case and recommend solutions. Participants are expected to apply the statistical analysis and other techniques acquired in this workshop. Each group will take turns to present their findings; while defending their analysis in a coherent manner. The exercise will be facilitated.

    3. Limitations of Workforce Analytics
      • While Analytics can provide objective insights, it is can be misinterpreted. The key is to be aware of the limitations, such as - Cognitive Bias, Correlation vs Causation, Simpson’s paradox.

    Who should attend
    • Managers, Analysts or Professionals with data management and reporting responsibilities
    • Managers, Analysts or Professionals with Analytics responsibilities who want to go beyond descriptive analyses and learn inferential and predictive analytics skills
    • Managers responsible for managing and supervising a team of analysts
    • All other professionals with a keen interest in developing data analytics skills

Participants are expected to bring laptops with internet access. All course activities are designed for Google Sheets and facilitated online, accommodating both remote and in-person learning environments.

    Methodology
A combination of lectures, discussions and interactions, as well as hands on exercises are designed to enable participants to acquire those practical skills.
